Abuse Counselling and Support Services
Our mission is to promote the wellbeing of individuals whose lives have been impacted by childhood sexual abuse, by providing education, information, support and counselling.
We provide individual counselling, support groups, education and referral services to child, youth, non-offending parents/guardians and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Referrals are made by:
- The Ministry for Children and Familes Development
- Mental Health Professionals
- School Personnel
- Other Community Agencies
- General Public
Services Provided
Individual Counselling from a client centred perspective utilizing the modalities of art and play therapy is available to children and youth who have been sexually abused. Additionally, counselling is offered to non-offending parents/guardians and caregivers to facilitate healing within the family system.
Individual Short Term Counselling from a client centred and feminist perspective to women who have experienced childhood abuse.
Children and Youth Support Groups are provided to children and youth of similar age groups and cover topics such as safety, secrets, communication, boundaries and emotions.
Non-Offending Parent Support Groups are offered that cover topics such as effects of sexual abuse, normal sexual development, how to support children and youth, the court system, self-care and support for parents.
Adult Survivor Groups are offered to survivors of childhood sexual abuse. These groups cover specific topics such as safety, anger, communication, emotions, boundaries, relationships, stages of healing and flashbacks.
All groups are offered per demand. These groups are closed and structured to offer a positive environment for growth, healing and mutual support.
Individual Support is provided on an ongoing basis to support those dealing with the effects of sexual abuse including survivors, families, friends and other community professionals.
Referrals are made to appropriate community agencies.
Public Education about various aspects of sexual abuse is available through public presentations, professional workshops and group lectures.
