Job Title: Foster Parent Caregiver Support Worker
This position requires availability during regular office hours for 6 hours/day, 5 days/week.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with a caseload of caregivers in their homes and community with the overall goal of sustaining successful placements and reducing problems leading to moves.
- One-on-one and group work with caregivers aimed at reducing conflict and increasing the ability to manage problem behaviours.
- Building and working within a wraparound case-management process for children and youth in care.
- Assisting caregiver families in making successful transitions with children/youth entering or leaving their home.
- Assessing strengths and needs of caregiver families and accessing appropriate community resources for both.
- Co-facilitate therapeutic processing groups and support groups for caregivers based on attachment theory.
- Teaching and modeling advocacy skills.
- Submit reports and stats in accordance with program, agency, and funder policies and procedures.
- Facilitate the learning and support of practicum students within the program as required.
- Other required duties.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in social services or a related field. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years experience working with families and youth in a social services setting.
- Must Maintain:
- Clear criminal record
- Emergency First Aid Certification
- CPI (non-violent crisis intervention) Certification
- Driver’s License
Knowledge/Abilities:
- Extensive familiarity with and skills related to foster placements, and youth and children who for a variety of reasons cannot live with their original families (behavioural, mental health, abuse, neglect, alcohol and drug issues, criminal involvement, family violence, etc.).
- Extensive understanding of attachment theory and the dynamics of broken attachments.
- Superior communication skills in all areas.
- Ability to train, support and debrief foster parents.
- Mediation Skills.
- Group facilitation and teaching skills (adults, children, and youth).
- Demonstrated professional approach to working with professionals and funders.
- In-depth understanding of collaboration and integrated case-management.
- Supervisory aptitude and experience.
- Knowledge of the BC Foster Care System.
