Job Shop "Assisting Local Immigrants" Project
Job Shop is an employment program that assists multi ethnic, English as a Second Language immigrants who need to learn job search skills to gain employment in Canada. There are 4 week sessions, which are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. There are 12 - 15 clients in each group. The project will register clients at any time and schedule them for the sessions. Client must meet project eligibility criteria.
In the 4 week session the client will learn, where to look for a job, how to look for a job, how to write a resume, how to go to an interview, what questions to ask, how to maintain employment in Canada.
Upon completion of the 4 week session, the project offers an additional 12 weeks of job placement and assistance. The project will keep in contact with the client and arrange for job interviews with employers, assist the client in their cover letters, updating of resumes, etc. The client has full access to the project resources and staff during this component.
The project also offers clients an option to access interpreters in their languages to assist in the learning process. This is on a need basis and the project will access the settlement workers in the multicultural department at Abbotsford Community Services. If you are working but less than 21 hours in a week you may qualify for this project.
