Family Education

We provide support and education to promote change, encourage personal growth and enhance healthy families.

These programs are funded through the Ministry of Children and Family Development. All programs are offered at no cost to participants. Priority will be given to those on low income.   

Courses for Parents

The Incredible Years

(7 sessions)
Wednesday Mornings
January 20 - March 3, 2010  or  April 21 - June 2, 2010 
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This program is designed to promote parents' self-confidence and competence in using positive parent management skills with children age 5 - 12. Effective use of encouragement, positive involvement, limit setting and discipline strategies are discussed.

Anger Awareness

(4 sessions)
Tuesday Evenings
January 26 - February 16, 2010 or March 30 - April 20, 2010

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Objectives in this workshop are:

  • to develop a clear understanding of anger
  • to learn how anger can work for you, not against you
  • to learn skills for managing anger in a healthy way

Parent Project

Tuesday & Thursday Mornings
January 19 - March 8, 2010  or  April 20 - June 24, 2010 or July 20 - September 23, 2010

9:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

An intensive experiential  parenting class for parents of preschool age children. Child care, transportation and two healthy snacks are provided.

Raising Your Spirited Child

Monday evenings
February 22 - March 8, 2010 or June 7 - 21, 2010

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

"Spirited kids are like roses - they need special care, and sometimes you have to get past the thorns to truly enjoy their beauty." This course, based on the book 'Raising Your Spirited Child' by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka, looks at understanding and working with the spirited child.

Free To Be Me

(6 sessions)
Monday Mornings
January 18 - February 22, 2010 or April 12 - May 17, 2020

9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This program is designed just for moms and gives an opportunity to discuss topics such as personal boundaries, developing self-esteem and how to take care of one's self during the challenging years of parenting.

Effective Parenting

(6 sessions)
Wednesday Evenings
January 27 - March 3, 2010  or  March 24 - April 28, 2010 or May 19 - June 23, 2010

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This program allows parents to explore areas of parenting such as:

  • different parenting styles
  • healthy communication
  • development of self-esteem
  • positive discipline strategies
  • and an understanding of child behaviour patterns

Learning to Deal with a Child's Anger

(4 sessions)
Monday Evenings
March 4 - March 25, 2010 or May 6 - May 27, 2010

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

For parents whose children are registered in Me, Myself and Anger. This course introduces parents to the material used in their child's program and provides tools to support and encourage children in dealing appropriately with anger.

January 25 - February 15, 2010  or March 8 - March 29, 2010 or April 10 - May 10, 2010
3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

A group for children in grades 3 - 7 to discuss the messages we learn about how to deal with anger and how these messages work.

Self-Esteem for Girls

(6 sessions)
Tuesdays
May 11 - June 15, 2010
3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This group is for girls in grades 5 - 7 and addresses issues around self-esteem, body image, boundaries, physical and emotional development and making safe choices.

Kidzonly summer 2010

(6 sessions)
July 7 - August 11, 2010

A social skill activity group for children currently in Grade 3 - 7 who do not have an opportunity to join other summer activities.
