Valley Youth Safe House

Also known as “the cottage”, provides homeless youth between the ages of 16-18, with a roof over their head and a safe place to sleep.  At this time we have room for two youth.  We are staffed in the evening and morning, but the youth must spend the afternoons in the community and the Cyrus centre.

We have a 24 hour cell phone, 604-302-2137, where the youth can always reach someone.

We are a voluntary, youth centered service intended to provide short-term, protective accommodation where youth can feel safe.  We offer youth the basic necessities as well as an environment of support, stability and security.

This is a place where youth can get connected to community resources that will assist them in “GETTING OFF THE STREETS”.  The safe house offers age-appropriate support to accommodate each stage of their journey, keeping them on track toward rejoining their families or progressing toward self-sufficiency.  While staying at the cottage, the youth are encouraged to go to school, find a job, and see a doctor if needed, follow the curfew and other house rules.

We are a place where youth can shower, wash clothing, have a warm bed to sleep in, someone to listen to them and a place where they can just relax for a few days, watch some movies, play some chess and maybe laugh a bit.  We encourage the youth to respect themselves and others and move forward in their personal growth towards positive change.

We do not tolerate violence of any kind, threats and or intimidation, racism, homophobia, sexism or other forms of discrimination and have an expectation of no drug and alcohol use while staying with us.
