Parents and Children Together

Applications and Registrations Now Being Accepted for Sept. 8 start!

PACT is a Family Literacy Program that serves adults, parents, caregivers and children. PACT is open to women and men. This program is provided at no cost to those registered in PACT. Childcare is provided at no cost to the children of participants who are 5 years of age or younger – on a first-come, first-served basis. Childcare is provided by trained and supervised caregivers who provide early literacy activities for the children. Enrollment is continuous; childcare is assigned in order of registration.

PACT meets September 2009 – April 2010, on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. All participants must attend all three weekly classes.

  • ONE class each week is a group time for parents, adults, and caregivers that provides learning about child development, family activities that promote early literacy, family finances and budgeting, nutrition, community services, communication skills, and parenting skills. These group sessions are led by the PACT coordinator.

PACT is affiliated with the University College of the Fraser Valley. The adult literacy classes of PACT are led by a certified UFV instructor. All participants are enrolled as UCFV students and will receive course credits, student numbers and access to the UCFV campus.

  • TWO classes each week are in our on-site classroom with the UFV instructor. Each student will complete an assessment that will allow the instructor to place each person at her or his correct level of study.
  • The classes allow participants to upgrade academic skills; finish high school study; improve English language reading, writing, and conversation skills; improve math skills.
