Family Education – Parenting Classes

The Family Education Program offers a wealth of experience working with families and groups. Facilitators bring insight and information to parenting courses within a caring and non-judgmental environment.

      To Access Family Education

      • Priority goes to MCFD and Xyolhemeylh referrals, but self-referrals are welcome
      • Please email, text or call us to start the application process
      • There is no charge for classes and childcare is available.

      Parenting Classes

      Registration is required for all classes. Childcare is available for all sessions and transportation is available for daytime sessions.

      Developing Your Identity

      Mondays 9:30am-11:30am

      • March 4 – April 15, 2024

      Just for moms! Explores topics like: personal boundaries, assertiveness, and self-esteem. Learn the importance of self-care while being a parent.

      Starting the Middle Years

      Wednesdays 9:30am-11:30am

      • April 24 – May 29, 2024

      Emphasizing the developmental changes that children 6-9 experience in the middle years. Some topics included are emotional regulation, screen use, peer relationships and sleep hygiene.

      Parent Project

      Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30am-12:15pm

      • January 25 – April 2, 2024
      • April 18 – June 18, 2024

      The building blocks of parenting, Parent Project uses hands-on approach which includes opportunities for participants to practice new skills with their children. Class topics include: discipline, communication, self-esteem, routine, and more.

      Understanding Anger

      Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:00pm

      • March 12 – April 16, 2024
      • May 14 – June 18, 2024

      Anger can break or build families. Understanding Anger offers tools to empower parents to have anger work for them, instead of against them.

      Parenting the Tween Years

      Wednesdays 6:00pm-8:00pm

      • April 17 – May 22, 2024

      Providing information to navigate key issues for children ages 10-12+. Class topics discussed: bullying, supervision, device usage, positive discipline and more.

      Raising Securely Attached Children

      Wednesdays 9:30am-11:30am

      • March 13 – April 17, 2024

      Equips parents with working knowledge on fostering secure attachments in children.

      Finding A Way Through

      Wednesdays 6:00pm-8:00pm

      • February 21 – March 27 , 2024

      Mondays 9:30am-11:30am

      • May 6 – June 17, 2024

      Focusing on the needs of each member of the family, Finding a Way Through is designed to help parents learn to co-parent collaboratively while navigating the journey of blended families. Former partners take separately.

      Raising Up a Family

      Fridays 9:30am-12:00pm

      • March 8 – April 12, 2024
      • May 10 – June 7, 2024

      Come together and learn about positive traditional parenting principles and discipline strategies discussed within the context of wise teachings passed over generations. Raising Up A Family is co-facilitated by local Stó:lo Elders and has Indigenous influences throughout. It includes crafts and lunch. For Indigenous parents or anyone interested in learning more about contemporary Indigenous issues related to parenting.

      Support for Single Mothers
      Thursdays from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

      Supporting single mothers towards personal and economic independence. Get one-to-one support or join group sessions to meet other single moms, share stories and support, and access resources in a friendly space.
