Settlement Workers In Schools

Young Jong Kwon and his family arrived in Abbotsford from Seoul Korea in April. Speaking through an interpreter he says that life has not been that big of an adjustment here because people are very nice and friendly.

Miriam Sanchez and her extended family came to Abbotsford from Mexico late in 2006. She agrees and adds that as a newcomer, it has been easy to find people willing to help the family.

Supportive Housing Gets a Green Light

For the last 3 years ACS has been working on providing Abbotsford with a low barrier supportive housing facility for men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. “When we talk about recycling – we are talking about loving Mother Earth”

The Grade 3 class at Dormick Park Elementary School is learning all about the three R’s. Reduce – Reuse – Recycle.

In late January the class hosted a special group of visitors announcing a $26,947 donation to the Abbotsford Community Services Recycling Program.

Manager of Market Development & Brokerage, Ken Rasmussen and Matt Dupuis of Cascades Recovery Inc. have been involved with the local recycling plant since 2009. “The recycling education component of the Abbotsford Community Services Recycling Program is truly unique. We haven’t seen anything else quite like it anywhere in the country,” commented Rasmussen.
