Immigrating to a new country is a life-changing decision that requires much planning and preparation – and India2Canada is here to help. Since the program launched in Chandigarh, India, in late 2015 it’s been an exciting year of firsts and successes.
Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada (IRCC), India2Canada educates and familiarizes prospective newcomers to Canada in their home country before they even arrive. Over the past year, the program has seen success in preparing immigrants for some of the changes they’ll experience once arriving in Canada – including culture shock and lifestyle changes, adapting to new laws, rights, and responsibilities, and connecting newcomers with employment and social services.

Now in its second year of operation, India2Canada finds that aspiring immigrants often underestimate the challenges that await them, such as lacking situational awareness, acclimatizing to a foreign environment, language barriers, laws and responsibilities, assimilating values of the host country – all which can be overwhelming and highly stressful physically, emotionally, and mentally. But by helping immigrants plan and prepare before leaving for their new country, India2Canada eases some of the challenges experienced by immigrants during the early stages of settlement, paving the way for a successful life in their new home country. It’s this connection that proves to be successful – in the program’s first year, over 300 clients were assisted with pre-arrival services.
India2Canada looks forward to expanding their client base in the year to come, to help even more immigrants with pre-arrival services to ensure their settlement in Canada is as smooth as possible.
